About Robert Wolfe

Robert Wolfe has studied, taught and written about history for 50 years.  His original field of specialization was modern European history, and he received a PhD from Harvard University in 1965 for a thesis on the popular organizations in the Paris Commune of 1871.  For the past 35 years, his focus has been on the specific  issue of the role of the Jewish people in world history.

He has written five books and a number of articles bearing on this topic.  Robert was born in 1937 and grew up in Washington Heights in New York City in a Jewish secular environment.  His background led him first to involvement in the Movement of the Sixties and then to a growing awareness of the need to promote a positive image of Israel and the Jewish people on the left.

He became a Jewish activist in the New York area, belonging first to the Jewish Socialist Community in the Seventies, and later to the The Generation After and the Society for Humanistic Judaism.  Gradually he was drawn to Zionism, and in 2001 he and his wife Linda made aliyah to Israel.

They now live in Netanya.  Both as a historian and as an activist, he has been guided by the belief that the highest value is to speak the truth.

The truth is that the Jewish people has played a positive role in world history, embodying and popularizing the desire for a more rational, just and humane social order in the face of the genocidal opposition of autocratic forces the world over.

The purpose of Robert’s web site is to make available this truth in a strictly secular, well documented and easily accessible form..
